Greetings from the Chairman
The 27th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Evolutionary Studies will be held at Nagahama Institute of Bio-Science and Technology from August 20th to 23rd. Recently, genome analysis of a wide variety of organisms has become possible, and phenotypic modification by genome editing has become familiar. It is an opportunity to explore the broad evolutionary process from the molecular level to phenotype and ecology with even more free-thinking. The main theme of this meeting is "Unraveling Biological Evolution from Diverse Perspectives: From Genome to Phenotype to Ecology" and will be held over four days. The meeting will start on the 20th and will include keynote speeches on evolution, development, and ecology, as well as symposiums, general lectures, poster presentations, and poster presentations and awards by high school students. In addition, on the final day, the 23rd, a summer school and a public lecture will be held, with a diverse menu as usual. A nursery will be set up at the venue, so those with children can participate with peace of mind. Nagahama University of Bio-Science is adjacent to JR Tamura Station, a few minutes from Shinkansen Maibara Station, and Lake Biwa spreads out in front of you across the road. You can enjoy the view by strolling along the lakeside. Nagahama City, the first host city in Shiga Prefecture, is also a popular tourist destination with its old townscape. If you have time, why not extend your trip to the old town area around the neighboring station? We look forward to your participation.
